Video Games Glossary
These definitions are for new players or people interested in learning about the gaming community and language
A
- Achievement
- A reward given to players who completed a specific task or a series of tasks
- Avatar
- A character that a player can create that represents his/her/their in the game or community
B
- Buff
- A power up that increases the player′s stats temporarily, usually in a battle
C
- Camping
- A technique used by players to wait in a specific area of a game for a period of time for spawn to appear to gain rare rewards
D
- Debuff
- An effect that decreases the player′s stats temporarily, usually in a battle
F
- Farm
- A technique that players use to continually fight the same battle to get a specific reward or leveling up their avatar for an future difficult battles.
N
- Non–Player Character
- A character in the game world created by developers for characters to interact with but aren′t real life players. They are there to chat, buy items, or give missions and side quests to players
P
- Patch
- An update that developer adds to the game to give players new content of the game
S
- Speedrun
- A way of playing a game by completing it as fast as possible
T
- Tank
- A defensive type of player that attract enemies away from allies because they can take more hits than any other type of players
